Take your measurements when you start a weight loss plan. While you may lose pounds regularly in the beginning, there may be weeks when you don't see the scale move. When this happens take your measurements again and compare with your original numbers. Knowing that you are getting smaller, will give you the motivation that you need when the scale seems stuck.

Try to avoid any fad diets, like 30-day programs or diets that prohibit eating whatsoever, i.e. liquid diets. While these types of programs might produce short-term results, they do absolutely nothing to get at the root causes of why people gain weight in the first place. In other words, they're worthless.

A great way to lose weight is to write down how you feel about yourself and why you want to lose weight. If you struggle when dieting, you can always refer back to what you wrote. It will remind you of why you ventured to lose weight in the first place.

Finding the support you need from others within the dieting community will help motivate you to lose more weight. You won't have to go out and join one of those weight-loss centers. You can simply log onto the internet and find forums and other social communities, where you can share your experiences with people just like you.

Drink lots of water to lose weight. Water keeps you feeling full so you aren't as likely to browse on food you shouldn't have. An often unconsidered benefit is that the energy that our body expends in bringing the temperature of the water we drink into sync with our internal temperature disposes of some of our excess calories.
