When working to lose weight, nothing is quite as important as keeping your goals in front of you. Keep a pair of those huge jeans or a picture of yourself handy, and when you need the inspiration and to remember why you're trying to lose weight, you can get some quick visual motivation.

Breaking up your meals into five to eight smaller meals a day instead of three larger meals a day is an integral part of success in weight loss. This is because your metabolism is continuously working to break down food and as such has the effect of increasing your base metabolic rate and making it easier to burn calories.

To stay motivated while losing weight, reward yourself in ways that aren't related to food. A small treat now and then can be good, but try to get out of the habit of thinking of food as a reward. Instead, promise yourself a new outfit--in your new size!--or a trip to the spa.

Group exercise is great motivation. Just go for a walk with loved ones. Play group sports with your family. There are lots of activities you can enjoy that will also help you lose weight.

If you follow the guidelines in the preceding paragraphs, you'll start losing weight right away. It is important to take it slowly and not to be too hard on yourself when you make a mistake. If you stray from your diet, do not obsess over it. Tomorrow is a new day that allows everyone to get a second chance.
